Designing a Mobile Reading App with New Branding, Styling, and Innovative Functionality

I am an avid reader of the Goodreads app, but I’ve always found several issues with its functionality, UI, and overall tech. While I appreciate its purpose, there are numerous areas for improvement that, if addressed, could significantly enhance the user experience and make it more enjoyable for readers.

Situation

The challenge was determining the scope of the redesign, especially as this project was driven by personal passion. Deciding which aspects to prioritise and redesign, without overhauling everything, required careful thought. Balancing improvements to functionality with maintaining the app’s existing charm was a key complication in this process.

Complication

The resolution involved designing a new style guide and design system to address the identified issues. I applied these improvements to the app’s interface, ensuring it was visually appealing and user-friendly while enhancing functionality. The result was a more intuitive and enjoyable reading experience for users, meeting both personal goals and user needs.
